Ida Flagler Daly was the Founder of Creative Activities

Ida Flagler Daly was born in Lime Springs, Iowa in 1901. At the age of four her muscles began to weaken; she was later diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MD). When her family moved west, Ida’s love of learning and realization that her life would be different, motivated her to develop what she had – a good mind, art talent, and a desire to be independent.

Ida spent her life fighting to maintain her independence and overcome the barriers presented by everyday life. Her talent for art was both her joy and her gift to share with others. Her legacy is being used to help other disabled adults, residing in Washington State, who want to participate in the arts.

Ida’s Fund Breaks Down Barriers To Participation in the Arts.

A young man in a wheelchair would love to throw pots – if only he had a pottery wheel that accommodated his chair.   A woman without use of her hands could continue writing poetry – if only she speech recognition software on her computer.   A veteran with a brain injury could re-learn to paint – if only he could afford to pay for special classes.

Ida’s Fund can break through those “IF’S” by providing resources that remove barriers and provide access to the arts when a disability gets in the way.

Applications for individual assistance are non-competitive and accepted at any time; a decision is usually made within 30 days. Organizational applications are accepted on a quarterly basis.

Participate As An Artist

We can provide resources to remove barriers to arts training and education, such as tuition assistance, special transportation, or adaptive or interpretive equipment.  If your goal is to produce your art, either for your own or the pleasure of others, we can provide assistance obtaining needed materials or equipment. Would you like to publicly display and/or market your art? Ida’s fund staff will assist you with such tasks as finding venues. Share your artistic goals and we’ll try and help you meet them.

Participate as a Patron.

Ida’s fund is committed to removing barriers to participating in the arts for adults with disabilities.  Arts organizations are invited to contact us about assistance in removing barriers for their audiences and patrons. Individuals encountering barriers to participation in the arts as a patron are also encouraged to contact us for assistance.
