If you are in the Seattle area this Thursday (August 19th from 11am – 6pm), you really should stop by and check this out! We are pulling a unique painting device out of storage, setting it up, and seeing how it works! Based on a manual wheelchair, it is fitted with an extension arm which holds a paintbrush. It needs a REALLY large space to use!
So, when Seattle Center offered us the chance to use the space in the newly opened Center Square, we jumped at it! The weather looks good, we have all the supplies we need, and we are ready to set it up and see what can be created. Any CA/VSAAW artist (whether in a chair or not) may take a turn trying out this device. Artists in chairs get priority, and they must be able to transfer themselves or have a caregiver with them to assist. Sorry, members of the general public are welcome to watch, but will not be allowed to participate.
Stop by any time between 11am – 6pm – or call for more information (206.443.1843). We’ll be set up in the NE corner of the Center Square space – just west of the EMP. We hope to see a lot of you here – it should be a lot of fun!

Seattle Musical Theatre is happy to announce this year’s Seattle SummerStage program for youth theatre education under the direction of Artistic Director Beth Mahmoud-Howell and Music Director Paul Linnes.
SummerStage is the brainchild of Ms. Mahmoud-Howell and Mr. Linnes. It is an intensive, two-week immersion in musical theatre education for students, who then participate in three public performances at Seattle Musical Theatre in Magnuson Park. Students take daily classes in music, dance and acting taught by our professional staff, with rehearsals in the afternoons culminating in a fully staged production.
“Annie Jr.” will feature unusual double-casting in three lead, comedic roles. Deaf actress Casey Johnson-Pasqua has been paired with Kayla Wheeler, who uses a wheelchair for mobility, to play orphanage mistress Miss Hannigan. Austin Ake will work alongside Sofian Mahmoud as the caddish Rooster, and Amber Winkler will double Sarah Porter as Rooster’s girlfriend, Lily. Austin and Amber are both deaf. Casey and Kayla were previously paired in a middle school production of “Beauty and the Beast,” also directed by Ms. Mahmoud-Howell, at Madrona K-8 in Edmonds. Read More
